Description
Summary:It is argued that a theologia Veteris Testamenti in the sense of a genitivus subjectivus is not possible. Where such a theology is striven for, a 'crisis' is usually perceived to exist in biblical theology. The suggestion is made that a variety of theologies, able to address different people in differing situations, is preferable to a quest for the 'right' theology. In this sense a theologia Veteris Testamenti as a genitivus objectivus would be possible. The problem of a theology contained in a canon as opposed to the theological interpretation of religious traditions from the history of Israel is drawn into the discussion, the argument being that both are possible although both need to keep in mind the insight that they depend on a creative decision. The nature of such a decision is discussed.
