Descripción
Sumario:Special Edition: Understanding the Old Testament in South Africa. Although scholars agree that the Old Testament incorporates many segments of oral folklore, the prevalent model in exegesis is a written one. The possible folklore origin of a section is therefore usually only mentioned in passing, before a literary (written) model is used to explain the passage. This article is an experiment in using an oral or folkloristic model in explaining the origin of the Old Testament. When the folklore origin of many sections of the Old Testament is taken seriously, many of the basic assumptions of the historical-critical method, as well as the presuppositions made by many modern literary theories, are seriously questioned.
