Description
Summary:In this paper several basic statements are made regarding the recent trend among some Old Testament scholars to assign a late (post-exilic) dating to the Old Testament as a whole. It is argued that this debate should be taken seriously and not merely be discarded or embraced, without accounting for the religious or ideological stance of scholars as well as their socio-historical context. It is further argued that late-daters should be fair to the work done by traditional historical-critical scholars and account for their theory in terms of the archaeological record as well as giving a detailed exegesis of the individual texts of the Old Testament.
