| Résumé: | A reworked version of a lecture given as part of a series at the University of South Africa, this paper honours the memory of Professor F E Deist by focusing on the theme of the Pentateuch as an issue dealt with by Professor Deist inter alia in a book co-edited by the present author. Taking its cue from several recent works on the Pentateuch, including Deist's, a short survey of the story line of the Pentateuch is given after which the theme of the overarching composition is discussed. |
