Description
Summary:In the extant text of the Pentateuch - both in the Hebrew original and the Septuagint - the words 'Hebron, in the land of Canaan' have been utilised in three terminological patterns: First, the verbatim repeated phrase forms an envelope structure encompassing Genesis 23; second, in Genesis 23:2, reading, 'she died at Kiriath Arba that is, Hebron in the land of Canaan', the phrase 'land of Canaan' occurs the 'seventh' time in the Bible; and third, the name 'Hebron' is the basis for a seven-part linguistic linkage that climaxes, as it were, in Numbers 13:22b, reading: 'Hebron was built 'seven' years before Zoan in Egypt'.
