Description
Summary:This article demonstrates the theory of textual criticism by the reconstruction of parts of the Old Greek text of Proverbs chapter 8. The first part is devoted to a number of fundamental theoretical issues, including definitions of Textual Criticism (TC), applicable textual theories, transmission history and the practice of TC. In the second part, the article deals with the complicated transmission history of this classical creation passage by utilising the useful edition of Holmes & Parsons. It is argued that a combination of internal and external considerations should be implemented in order to determine the Old Greek text of this chapter.
