Description
Summary:Research on the different records of Sennacherib's campaign in Judah in 701 BC has focused mainly on the historicity of the various texts. In contrast, this article focuses on the ideology of each of the accounts. The texts are investigated as ideological documents that were intended to serve the interests of social power of the groups that produced them. The factual differences between the reports are shown to contain the same ideological purpose, namely to claim honour for those in power and for their patron deities.
