Description
Summary:In the light of the lack of consensus on the literary structure of Psalm 138, a renewed attempt is made to analyse the song as methodically as possible, beginning with the small unities, then proceeding to the partial divisions, and finally to the psalm as a whole. Two parts emerge, the first of which consists of verses 1-5 and 6, while the second is made up of verses 7ab and 7c-8. The whole offers a play of relations where the corresponding data are inverted, from 1-6 to 7-8 (schematically YZY + Y yielding to Z + ZYZ). A rich correspondence is also noticeable between the beginning and the end of the psalm.
