Description
Summary:The role which the six verbs of Jr 1, 10 plays in the redaction of the Book of Jeremiah is investigated. In relation to Jr 31, 28, the application of the principle of individual responsibility of Ez 18 to Israel and the nations is pointed out. In the context of the influence of the Psalter on the Book of Jeremiah, there is in Jr 1, 10 the appropriation of Pss 9, 7 and 58, 7 by the prophet. It is argued that Psalm 83, with its theme of a hurricane in verse 16, enables the prophet to justify the punishment of his enemies in 23, 19 and the punishment of the nations - the enemies of Israel - in 30, 23 (see also 25, 32). It is pointed out how Psalm 79, with its theme of vengeance in verse 10, is used to justify the vengeance against the enemies of the prophet and then also against Babylon.
