| Summary: | The author first proposed an analysis of the literary structure of Ps 65 in 1993. In the following year, Girard did the same, offering criticism of his attempt, to which he answered two years later. In the original proposal, the author distinguished four parts, namely 2-5, 6-9, 10-11, and 12-14, which were seen to be arranged chiastically. Girard proposed a segmentation of two parts, 2-5 and 6-14, in which the first is characterised by chiasmus and the second by a parallel between 6 and 7-8 and 9-10c and 10d-14. The conclusion of this article is that the earlier proposal is still the best, but more reasons are listed why this is the correct way to read the poem. Working from the smallest segments, the author argues along the lines of growing units. He confirms the existence of chiasmus between the four parts, but in addition to this finds a parallel structure between the four parts. |
