Description
Summary:In this article Deuteronomy 17:14-20 is approached from a synchronic (a structural analysis within the literary context of the larger narrative) and a diachronic perspective (embedding the text into its exilic context). It is concluded that both approaches contribute to an understanding of the text. Some hermeneutical remarks (pertaining, amongst others, to the interrelationship between political, sexual, and economic power and their abuse) are also made to address the challenges that are presented by the text.
