| Summary: | Core syllabus for biblical studies at South African universities A report by a work committee appointed by the executive of The South African Society for the promotion of Biblical Studies with the commission to design a core syllabus in terms of the principles of curriculum design. The intention being that this core syllabus should pave the way towards a more uniform approach by South African Universities. Special attention is given to the academic and educational quality of the syllabus and to the proportional weight allotted to the various components. Particular aspects pertaining to the lecturer and the student as regards denominational and/or other backgrounds are analysed and some conclusions drawn. A prototype syllabus is proposed for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year course at Universities after motivating both the choice and placement of the different subsections. It is hoped that this document will provide a workable base for further discussion and future implementation. |
