Description
Summary:The philosophy of science nowadays emphasizes that our knowledge of truth is neither absolute nor relative, but relational. This is also true of our knowledge of God and Scriptures. This should not come as something strange to Christians, for the preliminary and relational nature of truth reflects the very essence of Biblical eschatology as well as the teachings of Jesus. In practice, however, Christians and theologians often operate with absolutized or objective truths. This is then mainly responsible for the impasse and tension amongst Christians in their opposing interpretations of the Bible. An analysis of some of the conflicting results of New Testament research confirms that even science, with it meticulous efforts to grasp the truth, will have to acknowledge the relational nature of truth. Therefore a new appreciation of the eschatological and Christological structure of the New Testament could create a new perspective, freedom and style in our search for ultimate truth.
