| Summary: | The problem addressed concerns the shortcomings of the undefined, as well as psychologically defined, uses of the term "emphasis" for the descriptionption of word/syntagm order, pendens constructions and some particles in Old Hebrew. In the light of the recent debate in theoretical linguistics, the narrower term "focus" is preferred, which term operates on the semantic level and the definition of which provides a verifiable theoretical framework for the descriptionption of the above-mentioned constructions. |
