Description
Summary:In this study the applicability of GB-theory for the descriptionption and explanation of the syntax of a dead language is investigated. Three aspects of clitic constructions in Biblical Aramaic are investigated: the restriction by clitics on right branching of bound constructions, the presence of the dummy casemarker and coreference between a clitic and a complement. It is shown that mechanisms of GB-theory can be used for the descriptionption of clitic constructions in Biblical Aramaic and can supply illuminating explanations for clitic constructions, which were meagerly noted in the past.
