| Summary: | This article deals with different endings and especially with reversal endings. This kind of endings is of especial significance to the understanding of the work as a whole, because they cast it in a new or different light. The article contains three examples of reversal endings: the story of Judah and Tamar (Gen. 38); the book of Judges; and psalm 104. It seems to me that the knowledge that sometimes the ending of a biblical unit - story, poem or an entire book - directs readers to re-examine and consider the whole sequence in the light of its concluding information, contributes to our interpretations and may even lead to novel and possibly contradictory ones. |
