| Summary: | Continuing a previous discussion on different styles of dialogue and different audiences involved in this dialogue, the present article is concerned with some characteristics of the ‘third public’. The boundaries that exist not only between the different publics, but also within the third public itself, complicate the process of developing a constructive discourse in the public sphere. The problem is here illustrated by practical examples encountered when developing a code of conduct in the workplace. It is concluded that the dialectic between individual and community plays a decisive role in such a process. |
